Registry Fix Review: Scan & Fix Features

This entry is part 3 in the series In-depth Registry Fix Review

The main feature of any registry repair utility is obviously its ability to scan for errors in the registry, and then to fix those errors. A registry cleaner should also be able to fix various other errors on your Windows PC, such as missing DLL’s and random error messages.

Registry Fix provides the ability to scan for errors (using the free or paid version), as well as to fix the errors that it has found (using the paid version). It also provides advanced features, but these are discussed in the Registry Fix Review: Advanced Features section.

Registry Fix Review: The scan screen

As you can see from the above screenshot, Registry Fix allows you to select several sections and specific problems that you would like to search for. You can specify whether or not you want to scan the whole Windows registry, or only certain areas.

This allows you to focus the scan if you suspect that you have a specific problem with one of the areas of your computer. What I found is that it is best to leave all of the options checked, allowing you to scan for problems across your whole computer.

After Registry Fix has scanned your computer for errors, it provides you with a list of all of the errors that it has found. The main problem that I had with this list is that it does not indicate how severe the problem it, and what exactly the cause of the problem is.

This is an important omission, especially if you are an expert computer user and want to know what changes the registry repair is going to make to your computer. If you are a beginner computer user, this may be beneficial, because it doesn’t overload you with information that you do not care about.

What I liked about Registry Fix’s scan and repair functionality

  • Comprehensive scanning functionality
  • Ability to choose which areas to focus its scan on

What I didn’t like about Registry Fix’s scan and repair functionality

  • Difficult to determine the severity of the problems that it has found
  • Registry scan can take a while

Conclusion

In terms of the registry scan and fix features, Registry Fix does the job of scanning and fixing registry errors. It provides several options on exactly what you want to scan for, allowing you to focus on fixing a specific problem.

On the other hand, the reporting of errors is somewhat lacking. It does not explain the severity of the errors, and whether or not it would advise you to fix them. This can be a problem, especially if you are an expert user who wants to see exactly what is wrong with your computer.

Registry scan & fix features star rating: 3.5/5 - Comprehensive scan, hampered by slow speed and not as comprehensive error reporting
